Living in Beijing for almost half a year has totally changed my image of the latter. While Beijing is said to be one of the most advanced, most modern cities in Asia, I felt most attracted to and fascinated by its other side. The other, old or the real Beijing: One can find it in the Hutong Are around the Forbidden City. Or passing the 5th ring road, between hundreds of abandoned and incomplete skyscrapers. In beautiful, partly disturbing places you get irritated by French looking fountains or forgotten Castles in planned fake Disneylands. Those small journeys and examinations all around the city were very important to me. They completed my own image of Beijing as an urban living space. This image differs a lot from the one I got while living in Sanlitun. With the photos above, I would like to give you a small insight in a city as rich and diverse as one can imagine. Even if they present a rather personal image of Beijing.
